Doctor of Philosophy in Education


The purpose of the course is to develop a high level of language proficiency and focuses on accurate and coherent communication at the research level. Academic writing for research
purposes allows students to present credible and persuasive evidence and ideas to a varietyof audiences. It includes finding sources, evaluating their credibility, and smoothly integrating them into academic texts. Students ultimately demonstrate the ability to make conscious decisions about style, genre, sources, citation, and formatting style. The coursealso aims to provide an insight into the potential for self-publishing and to share knowledge about how best to approach publication. They will be prepared to use different tools/software like Endnote etc. to follow appropriate standards for documentation.

COURSE GOALS:
The students should be able to:
1. to understand the literature review
2. Demonstrate knowledge of and familiarity with the nature of academic writing.
3. Demonstrate knowledge of writing research proposals.
4. Gather, analyze, and organize needed data for writing a formal research report.
5. Use graphics effectively in required academic documents.
6. Interact collaboratively with other students to complete research tasks.
7. Develop an understanding of computer technology by using hardware and software to
complete research.

COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
As a result of taking this course the students will be able to:
1. Act ethically and critically as they apply principles taught in the course to
professional communication situations.
2. Exhibit the ability to write literature review
3. Critically analyses sample of literature.
4. Apply concepts of information design and effectively create standard formats used to
construct meaningful documents.
5. Read and explain in writing a variety of tables, graphs, and technical illustrations.
6. Effectively negotiate the process of completing technical documents. These processes
include planning, drafting, editing, and revising to quality standards, and, where
appropriate, usability testing, research methods, and appropriate citation of sources.
7. Create clear, concise technical documents that effectively use style and grammar, and
information structure in ways that create meaning to the reader.
