Master of Philosophy in Education (M.Phill Education)


The major aim of this degree program is to provide an opportunity to strengthen their knowledge in the field of education through research activities. Master of philosophy (MPhil) in Education is a useful degree program for candidates who have already completed their first degree in education or related disciplines. Candidates who will join this program are expected to do a lot of research work. The program provides an oppurtunity to students to choose a specfic area of research in education for their M.Phil thesis.

1. The Scheme of Studies for MS/MPhil/Equivalent degrees shall be according to the HEC guidelines which are summarized as under:

(a) Coursework according to the curriculum in the major subjects in which a scholar is registered for the MS/MPhil/Equivalent degree

(b) Minimum 24 credit hours course work

(c) Additional course work to cover any deficiency may be assigned in individual case(s) by the Head of Department

(d) After completion of two regular semesters the Head of the Department may offer two options:

(e) Plan-A (MS/MPhil/Equivalent Degree by Research) or

(f) Plan-B (MS/MPhil/Equivalent Degree by Course).

 

2. Plan-A (MS/MPhil/Equivalent Degree by Research):

(a) Submission of research proposal/synopsis for the MS/MPhil/Equivalent degree program to the GSRMC for final approval

(b) A thesis of 6 credit hours on topic approved by GSRMC

(c) Plagiarism test of Thesis

(d) Evaluation of Thesis by experts

(e) An oral (viva-voce) examination on Thesis.

 

3. Plan-B (MS/MPhil/Equivalent Degree by Course):

The scholar will pursue course work of 6 credit hours in lieu of 6 credit hours of Thesis in those disciplines where course work may be permitted. This exemption can only be exercised if the scholar wants to terminate his/her degree program at MS/MPhil/Equivalent level and do not want to pursue PhD program.

 

4. Degree Completion Timeline:

(1) A full-time MS/MPhil/Equivalent program shall extend over a period of a minimum of three regular semesters (1.5years) and a maximum of eight regular semesters (four years). Frozen period or absentee if any will be considered as part of the duration.

(a) The date of thesis defense shall be considered as the date of completion of degree for PlanA option.

(b) The date of declaration of the result shall be considered as the date of completion of degree for Plan-B option.

(2) In case a scholar is unable to complete MS/MPhil/Equivalent degree within the prescribed timeframe he/she may appeal to the GSRMC through proper chancel for extension in duration. In the even to force majeure (i.e., delay on account of circumstances beyond the control of scholar), the GSRMC may accede to his appeal.
