Bachelor of Science in English
BS English is a four (4) year program that seeks to provide its students with quality education in the English language, linguistics, and literature. The program does not only deal with Linguistics and Literature, but also incorporates other disciplines such as social, basic, and applied sciences to introduce the students to major threads of relevant fields. It strives to mold the students to become professionally enriched with communication, technical and innovative skills, while at the same time instilling in them an understanding of professional and ethical issues.
Guiding Principles for the Design of BS English Program
Before designing the program, the program committee for BS (English) set the following principles that would guide the whole program development process:
- The BS English program should support the University in realizing its vision and mission.
- The primary intent of the BS English program should be to prepare graduates capable of assuming a productive career in their field of specialization.
- The program should aim to prepare graduates for a prolific career in their field of study/specializationby providing a conducive environment in teaching and learning core and emerging areas in English. The program should mold the students to become professionallyenriched with communication, technical and innovative skills, while at the same time instilling in them an understanding of professional and ethical issues.
- The program should be benchmarked against similar programs offered by reputed national and international universities
- The program should conform to the requirements of HEC.
- The feedback from all the stakeholders should be sought and addressed in the program.
Careers and Progression
This degree can lead to a wide range of careers. In immediate and practical terms, the students become equipped for an enormous range of careers and postgraduate opportunities. They can go on to work in translation, teaching and academics, professional writing, arts and media, journalism, administration, public relations, leisure and tourism management, international relations, marketing. Many progress to related postgraduate courses.
Program Educational Objectives (PEOs)
The graduates of the BS English program are expected to:
- Be able to use English language and communication skills acquired in pursuance of a successful career in research, teaching, print media, television and other related areas.
- Keep abreast with current developments and issues in English language and Communication studies; pursue further education in English, Linguistics and Communication and/or carry out independent research in their area(s) of specialization.
- Contribute positively to society through responsible, professional, and ethical practice in pursuance of their career and research.
Entry Requirement:
To be admitted to the BS English Program, applicants shall fulfill the following requirements:
- 45% marks in HSSC (or equivalent) examination. Applicants with a qualification other than HSSC will need to furnish
an equivalence certificate from Inter-Board Chairman Committee, Islamabad.
- Students with less than 45% marks in HSSC may be admitted in the program provided
I. They have obtained minimum 45% marks in SSC.
II. They have obtained minimum 45% marks in English subject in HSSC.
III. They complete zero-semester with a CGPA of 2.0 or above.
- Students with less than 45% marks in HSSC may be admitted in the program provided
- Pass an entrance examination.
- Any other requirements as stipulated by the University from time to time.
