Governance is considered to be the most celebrated term widely discussed worldwide nowadays. Governance and public policy are strongly interlinked with each other. Bad or poor governance is the product of the execution of ineffective policies. Such ineffective policies if not properly administered would nurture poor governance. Monitoring and Evaluation of a public policy lies at the heart of good governance. Governance could only be effective if the policies enacted are sound and feasible. Poor rule of law, mass corruption, low literacy rate, maladministration, unsound policies, absence of checks and balance over the despotic tendencies of institutions, financial embezzlement, red tapism, nepotism, low per capital income, etc., are the factors that strongly affect the governance index of a country. The growing number of social evils have discarded the social fabric of the societies. These challenging dilemmas have sought the attention of researchers, academicians and scholars to explore different aspects and dimensions and public policy and recommend feasible solutions to address these challenges.

The BS Governance and Public Policy course is designed with the intent to infuse the students with the profound and complex models, theories, and concepts of governance. It will enable the graduates to gain an insight regarding the core social issues that have obstructed the process of good governance and execution of public policies in Pakistan. The programme further aims to discuss the cycle of public policy making right from problem identification down to the masses feedback. It highlights the major areas for improving governance and suggests relevant policies for overcoming the challenges erupted due to several governance related negligence.

Objectives of BS Governance and Public Policy Programme:

The BS Governance and Public Policy programme graduates will acquire the following competencies upon completion of the course:

  • To suggest feasible solutions to improve governance in society.
  • To frame effective policies in order to counter the challenges emerged due to poor governance.
  • To determine the root causes of bad governance.
  • To design an effective governance model best suited to the needs of stakeholders.
  • To create persuasive position papers, press releases, and original legislation.
  • To Integrate an understanding of economic, legal, political, and governmental institutions, systems, and processes.
  • To make distinction among economic, legal, political, and governmental institutions, systems, and processes.
  • To understand the policy making process by placing emphasis upon the feedback mechanism and its crucial importance to the success of a sustainable policy.
  • To ensure smooth governance by eradicating the obtrusive social evils that hamper the economic and social progression in a country.
  • To be able to draft a policy or a law regarding an emerging issue or long standing issue.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • F.A/F.Sc/DBA/D.Com or equivalent 12 year of education
  • 60% marks in F.A/F.Sc/DBA/D.Com or equivalent qualification

Ineligibility:

  • Rusticated/expelled from a University for misconduct
  • Involved in offence of moral turpitude
  • Currently enrolled in an academic programme in other College/University
